Attention is profoundly critical to academic success, as it serves as the gateway to learning and cognitive processing. The ability to focus on relevant information while tuning out irrelevant distractions is essential, effectively allowing learners to efficiently process, retain and apply learned information in problem-solving and critical thinking tasks.

Research has shown that these executive attention abilities predict most dimensions of academic competence (Checa & Rueda, 2011; Checa et al., 2008). Therefore, fostering attentional skills in educational settings is paramount for optimizing learning experiences and achieving educational objectives. To do so educators must have access to attentional and executive function measures that reflect these abilities in students.

Leading academic institutions and educational professionals all over the world use MOXO to gain a holistic evaluation of students' cognitive capabilities, why?

MOXO offers data on attentional profiles not available to date in educational assessments, providing educators with an easy to implement tool that allows access to essential executive attention data for each student. This data can be used to adapt teaching methods and create individualized intervention programs, to increase the chance of academic success for all students.

How educational professionals use MOXO around the world:

1. Spain 🇪🇸

Through the phenomenal work of our partners in Spain – Masneuros, MOXO has been integrated in 11 schools and universities in Spain, and one in Costa Rica. These schools include institutions associated with the ADANA Foundation, public municipality schools, and special education programs. The project with the ADANA foundation  (Adana Volunteers of Education Association) was conducted in 2021 with the academic collaboration of the University of Barcelona, and the Psychiatric department of the Vall d’Hebron hospital in Barcelona.

How educational professionals pay attention to attention in Spain:

  • They receive comprehensive training on how to use the MOXO system
  • They administer the first MOXO assessment to the entire class
  • They undergo a workshop on the importance of executive functioning in education, as well as how the student’s brain works and how to optimize learning
  • They undergo training on how to interpret the MOXO reports and general consultation on how the results translate to classroom performance
  • An additional consultation on appropriate intervention options based on MOXO data
  • 10 week application of individualized intervention programs
  • They undergo a workshop on attention difficulties, reading and writing disorders and regulation difficulties in students
  • They administer a second MOXO assessment administered to the entire class
  • They evaluate the intervention success as marked by MOXO results, and hold a consultation on whether students should be referred to external diagnostic services
  • Conclusion

Educators and education professionals to date have expressed satisfaction with the program and its positive impact on student outcome. This test case affirms MOXO’s value as not only useful, but a critical addition to more efficient and effective education tailored to individual students’ needs.

2. Turkey 🇹🇷

Through the amazing work of our partners in Turkey – Dehaist, MOXO is used by 76 schools and school chains throughout the country, 36 of which are found in Istanbul.

A “train the trainer” methodology is used to assimilate the knowledge and knowhow of using MOXO to each school. In these institutions, educational psychologists have direct access to MOXO assessments and administer the tests to students at their discretion. They then convey the test results to both teachers and parents, opening a direct line of communication with specific directions for intervention. Dehaist work in tandem with the teams on using this data so that the educational team, together with the parents and the students can easily design individualized interventions with higher rates of success.

Additionally, Dehaist partnered with the Psychological Counselor Association, composed of more than 14,000 educational psychologists and counselors nationwide, and offers professional training and workshops. In these meetings educational professionals can learn how to easily identify specific MOXO profiles that are common among students, and support and advise the development of individualized interventions to address specific difficulties. By working with and educating professionals around the country on how MOXO’s attentional parameters can be related not only to attention deficits, but also with communication problems, impulsivity, sluggish cognitive processing, addiction and more, the education system as a whole benefits (Assayag et al., 2022; Kılınçel & Usta, 2021; Ozturk, 2023). Educational psychologists are able to use the data in the MOXO reports to enhance learning methods and therefore optimize academic success.

Educational professionals in Turkey continuously provide positive feedback and impressive case reports conveying MOXO’s usefulness as an assessment and intervention planning tool in educational settings. Additionally, use of MOXO by educational psychologists continues to grow both in private and public sectors, indicating the value of MOXO in schools as a tool to aid teachers and increase learner’s academic achievements.
